Recruiting for tennis is not as well publicized as it is in football or basketball. But it's still a very big deal to sign the No. 1 player from your home state.
That's what the South Alabama Jaguars have done, inking Auburn High School senior Philip Bosman. During his career at Auburn High Bosman became the first player in school history to capture a single state championship, winning the Class 7A title as a junior defeating Grissom's Parrish Simmons in straight sets, the top seed in the bracket. He was also a semifinalist at the Southern Closed tournament and recently named the Alabama Male Junior Player of the Year.
Bosman was rated the No. 1 player in the state by the United State Tennis Academy and HEAD.
"Philip comes to South with lots of talent," said USA coach Nic Brochu said. "He comes from a good tennis family. Watching him play shows how much heart he has on the court. He has a solid baseline game and will add depth to our lineup. I can see Philip developing into a great player for the Jags."
The Jags also signed Julien Evard, a transfer from Nevado-Reno, where he played No. 1 and reached the national tournament.
