Threaded Fasteners Nuts and Bolts of the Game
When the college football season opens this fall, Alabama is expected to be ranked in the top 5 but not No. 1. That’ll end a streak that’s as incredible as it is tidy.
Since 2009, Alabama has been ranked No. 1 in the AP poll 79 times. The rest of the country has held the No. 1 spot an identical 79 times.
That’s an incredible streak of sustained success.
But even more remarkable is the fact that Alabama has been ranked No. 1 a national best total of 122 weeks beginning in 1961. The other 13 teams that currently make up the SEC have held the top spot 120 times.
Second among SEC teams is Florida at 41 weeks. LSU has been on top 32 times, followed by Tennessee’s 18, Auburn’s 9, Texas A&M’s 7, Ole Miss’ five, Mississippi State’s 5, Missouri’s 2 and Arkansas’ one.
It will be interesting to see if any SEC teams can add to that total this season.
