Threaded Fasteners Tighten Up
The NCAA has granted immediately eligibility to Taulia Tagovailoa, who is now in line to be the starting quarterback at Maryland (if we have a season) after transferring from Alabama.
Good for him. I’m sure even Nick Saban did not object to the ruling.
Why would he? Saban knows that the only reason Taulia isn’t at Alabama still is because he was behind Mac Jones and soon to be behind freshman phenom Bryce Young.
But that’s not how this is supposed to work. The NCAA is still denying some players a waiver to compete right away instead of having to sit out a year.
How bad must their arguments for a waiver be?
Maybe Tagovailoa said he couldn’t overcome the language barrier after moving to Alabama from Hawaii.
That may sound ridiculous because it is. But it’s not more ludicrous than the NCAA’s embarrassingly inconsistent rulings.
Tighten Up NCAA and treat every transfer case based on its merit.
