Threaded Fasteners Nuts and Bolts of the Game
In Arkansas, a high school football game scheduled for tonight between Bentonville West and Fayetteville has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
That isn’t big news. Games are being postponed or canceled in every state because of the pandemic. But what makes this different is the allegations being made against Fayetteville coach Casey Dick.
You may recognize the name. Dick played quarterback for the Razorbacks.
He’s now being publicly accused by some parents at the school of instructing their sons to lie about being present at a party that several students attended before testing positive for COVID-19.
Dick denies the accusation, and one famous parent, Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurackek, has strongly pledged his support for the coach.
This sort of story was bound to come to light at some point. A great majority of coaches are in the profession for all the right reasons. Dick may well be among that majority.
But at some point, a coach is going to be justifiably accused of putting winning ahead of the health of his players. When that happens, almost no punishment will be too severe.
