Here is one of the greatest stats in sports history courtesy of Joe Pompliano of Huddle Up.
Only three players over the age of 40 have caught an NFL pass. Two of the three are already in the Hall of Fame, while the third will be as soon as he’s eligible.
It’s not shocking that Jerry Rice caught 185 passes for 2,509 yards and 12 touchdowns after turning 40.
But his accomplishment is even more impressive when you consider the two other over-40 receivers. Brett Favre and Tom Brady. They each caught one after turning 40.
Athletes are becoming increasingly successful at a later age. So maybe these legends will soon have company. But this stat is just another example of why Rice is the best to ever do it at receiver.
