Herbstreit should stick to football instead of trying to play a doctor

Kirk Herbstreit has devoted his life to being a great college football analyst. His hard work has paid off in him becoming the best in the business.

But the opinion of the best college football analysts in the country on whether the Covid-19 pandemic will shut down football this fall is no better or worse than that of my plumber or attorney or banker. Herbstreit has no medical information that would make him a better source on the subject than the rest of us.

That's why it was shocking and disappointing when Herbstreit said this to TMZ Sports on Friday: "I'll be shocked if we have NFL football this fall. If we have college football. I'll be so surprised if that happens."

I know Herbstreit is paid to offer his opinions on college football. He's usually great at it.

But it's irresponsible for him to use his considerable public standing to spread information that is pure speculation about such an important subject. I don't just mean the subject of football, but the much more important point of when the country will be back to some level of normalcy.

Kirk, let's speculate about who's going to win the next national championship game (whenever that may be) and leave it to the medical experts to give us all the information we need about the pandemic.
