College football writer and editor Matt Brown of The Athletic has Alabama poised to be No. 1 in the country on his AP Poll ballot. But that's only after Ohio State and all the other teams not participating this season are eliminated from consideration.
AP voters were given the curious instruction to include teams that have announced they won't play in the preseason poll. After one week of play, all of those teams will be removed.
