Threaded Fasteners Nuts and Bolts of the Game
The NFL is in full swing this week, which means it’s time for the annual check of which colleges have the most players on the 53-man rosters.
There’s no real news at the top, where Alabama’s 56 players is six ahead of second-place Ohio State and 15 ahead of third-place LSU.
Auburn is tied with Texas, UCLA and Wisconsin for 17th place, each with 25 players on active NFL rosters.
But how about this stat: There are three teams in Florida that have comparable numbers to powerhouse Clemson. Florida has 39 current NFL players, Miami has 30 and Florida State has 28. There’re all ranked in the 13 programs for producing NFL talent. Clemson has a respectable 29 active NFL players.
That Clemson number should rise with the way Dabo Swinney has been recruiting lately.
But there are some programs better than others at making the whole program more than the sum of its parts. Clemson is one of those. A team like Miami certainly is not.
