Threaded Fasteners Nuts and Bolts of the Game
If it’s possible to make 2020 any more unusual, then this suggestion could do it.
If Alabama beats Arkansas and Florida over the next two weeks and signs the country’s No. 1 recruiting class in between, then it’s time to immediately introduce some of those blue-chip freshmen into the championship mix.
As in, I want to see Deontae Lawson on the kick coverage team in the national semifinals three weeks from today.
There are many unintended consequences stemming from the NCAA’s decision to make this season not count against any player’s eligibility. That includes players like Lawson, who would still have five years to play four seasons after playing in this year’s playoffs.
Lawson is uniquely qualified to take advantage of the loophole. He’s the rare superstar who was as good on special teams as offense and defense for Mobile Christian.
Why not let him give an Alabama star player a play or two off?
It probably won’t happen. But what’s the fun of having a loophole if nobody chooses to leap through it?
For Threaded Fasteners, I’m Randy Kennedy with Nuts and Bolts of the Game.
