We always knew Mac Jones wouldn’t make it all the way to the point of exhausting his eligibility at Alabama. It was only a matter of time before he picked up his national championship ring or two then left in pursuit of a team that came closer to fitting his talent level.
Of course, almost all of us assumed that would be someplace like Houston Baptist not an organization like the Houston Texans.
But here we are. After one year as a redshirt, one year as a bench-warmer, one year as the top backup and one year as a record-setting Heisman finalist, Jones has declared for the NFL Draft.
We’ll see how the process goes, but he’ll be off the board no later than early in the second, and likely much higher than that.
The line forms here for everyone who wants to admit they thought he would never play a significant snap at Alabama. He certainly proved us all wrong.
