Threaded Fasteners Tighten Up: Usual NCAA powerhouses look hopeless

On a day when Alabama scored 115 points to blow out Georgia, Georgia native Walker Kessler scored 9 points to lead North Carolina in scoring in a 60-48 loss to Virginia.

While Alabama and a few other teams whose blood is not blue are being projected for deep NCAA Tournament runs, the normal kings of the sport are struggling.

Last week, for the first time in 60 years, the AP basketball poll did not include Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky, Kansas or UCLA.

Look, I’m all for some fresh faces making it deep into the NCAA tournament. But few people are going to be interest to tune in to see if someone can knock off Illinois or West Virginia.

Fans tend to cheer against the powerful programs in all sports. But that doesn’t mean we don’t want them in our lives. We want to see them lose, not lose all hope.

Some of the sport’s blue bloods need to tighten up and at least make the tournament. Just because Duke is bad doesn’t mean the Blue Devils should deprive us the chance to see them lose on the big stage.

For Threaded Fasteners, I’m Randy Kennedy with Tighten Up.
