Threaded Fasteners Tighten Up: Auburn team captain in the portal

Auburn’s football captains from last year tell the story of a tumultuous year.

Linebacker K.J. Britt made only 23 tackles before an injured hand forced him to miss most of the season. He finally got back on the field in the Senior Bowl and will try to make an NFL team.

Quarterback Bo Nix and running back Shaun Shivers were both part of the solution and the problem for Auburn’s inconsistent offense in 2020.

Then there’s Big Kat Bryant. Bryant didn’t turn pro but he won’t be part of Auburn football in 2021. He was all set to transfer to Oklahoma, but those plans have now hit a snag.

Lots of great programs have team leaders who leave early for the NFL. But it’s not a good look for a team captain to decide to play for another college.

Bryant is within his rights to transfer to another school. But there is clearly some tightening up needed when a team captain departs for another school. Maybe this will be the final piece of the transition before the Tigers can start anew with the Bryan Harsin era.
