When Bruce Pearl arrived at Auburn, the Tigers hadn’t had a top-20 NBA draft pick since 1988.
Now it seems to be an annual occurrence. Two years ago, Chuma Okeke was picked 16th by the Orlando Magic. Last year, Isaac Okoro went fifth to Cleveland Cavaliers.
Freshman point guard Sharife Cooper is a projected lottery pick if he turns pro this season. And signee Jabari Smith is a McDonald’s All-American who some believe could be the No. 1 overall pick in 2022.
That would be four lottery picks in as many years.
Here’s the kicker: All four hail from Georgia.
Oh, and that 1988 draftee? That was Atlanta native Chris Morris.
