If Alabama is to advance to the Sweet 16 and beyond it will need John Petty to be a better offensive player.
Petty was the Tide’s leading rebounder and won the team Hardhat Award in the win over Iona. But his offense was a different story. He made only 3 of 13 shots from the field and 3 of 8 free throws. After making his first 3-pointer, Petty clearly lost his shooting confidence. Kudos to him for not letting that impact the rest of his game.
The shooting woes can be forgiven. But his hair style selection is a different matter. A player’s person style is none of my business. But on Saturday Petty was having to readjust his long hair in a rubber band while the opposing team is inbounding pass. Style can’t take the place of substance.
Tighten Up Petty. If nothing else, tighten your rubber band.
