The 2017 class of recruits in the state of Alabama was dominated by players classified as athletes.
Three of the top 11 players in that class according to 247/Sports were Alabama signee Chadarius Townsend of Tanner, Auburn signee Malcolm Askew of McAdory and Auburn signee Alaric Williams of Southside of Asheville.
Oh, there was another athlete in that class who didn’t get the attention of the in-state college powers like those three.
The 20th ranked player in the state and No. 421 in the country that year was Blount’s Kadarius Toney.
That would be top-20 NFL draft pick Kadarius Toney.
Many times college scouts know better than average fans when projecting success for young players. Other times, like in the case of Toney, you wonder how they could watch him play and not know he’s one of the best players they’ve ever seen.
Toney has proven that at Blount, with the Florida Gators and will soon do so with the New York Giants.
