Auburn’s baseball team is ahead of exactly one team in the SEC standings, just like the Tigers’ softball team finished. At least in baseball there are 14 teams in the league.
Auburn softball played South Carolina for the right to join the other 11 teams in the SEC tournament last week. Auburn lost.
Now the baseball team is in a fight to reach the league tournament. Twelve of the 14 teams reach the conference tournament. With one week left in the regular season, Texas A&M, Auburn and Missouri are in a struggle for that final spot.
It’s hard to imagine a worse year for Auburn’s overall athletic program on the field. The Tigers need to Tighten Up, starting with this weekend on the baseball field and continuing into Bryan Harsin’s first Auburn football team next fall.
