Bridge repair work nears completion

May 24, 2021

Work to repair the Pensacola Bay Bridge is nearing completion. Contractors are now focused on installing critical safety measures and traffic control devices that will allow traffic to return to the structure.

These safety measures include:

  • Installation of lighting now that power has been restored to the bridge electrical systems.
  • Placement of temporary traffic barriers that will separate vehicles from active work zones.
  • Placing new pavement striping and delineators intended to guide traffic through the temporary roadway alignment.
  • Installation of work zone traffic signage to alert drivers of roadway changes and conditions while maintaining safe work zone operations.

The targeted reopening of the bridge remains the week of May 31, 2021. FDOT continues to review the contractor’s schedule for the entire Pensacola Bay Bridge project with the anticipated completion date for all improvements currently scheduled for January 2022.

From Florida Department of Transportation District Three:

In preparation for the future opening of the Pensacola Bay Bridge, the Florida Department of Transportation has created an animation to show motorists what to expect when the Pensacola Bay Bridge opens to traffic. The video will assist motorists in preparing for the traffic alignment on the bridge and instruct motorists traveling into Pensacola on how to navigate the 17th Avenue Flyover.
