Wide receiver Hal Presley is the latest example of the unintended consequences brought on by the ill-conceived new transfer rule.
Presley was in Auburn for less than a month before deciding he was home sick. The Arlington, Texas, native entered the transfer portal this week and will apparently never play for Auburn.
Roughly 99.4 percent of all freshmen feel homesick during their freshman year. Then they work through it, develop into adulthood and eventually thrive in their new environment.
Not anymore.
Now, at the first sign of adversity, it’s time to hit the transfer portal.
That’s not good for college football. More importantly, it’s not good for developing football players into young men.
