Threaded Fasteners Tighten Up: TV networks need a better plan for gamedays

I hate network TV executives. I wish I knew some stronger language to express how much I absolutely despise the people who make ridiculous decisions that adversely affect my football viewing enjoyment.

Saturday, ABC had a doubleheader of Oklahoma-Tulane at 11 a.m., followed by Alabama against Miami at 2:30. Already we have a problem. Oklahoma’s offense was never going to be stopped by Tulane, and the Sooners’ defense still hasn’t decided to tackle anybody. So, the idea the first game would end in time for the second to begin was ambitious.

By the time Oklahoma finally beat stubborn Tulane, Alabama was in the middle of its first drive. By the time viewers on ABC saw the game, Alabama had completed that drive with the first touchdown of the season.

As John Metchie was crossing the goal line, ABC viewers were watching Tyra Banks dressed as a gypsy promoting Dancing with the Stars followed by a Sara McLachman mezzo soprano wannabe croon about some sepia toned kids needing their parents to buy life insurance.

When the Oklahoma game ended, ABC could have switched immediately to the Alabama game. Instead, viewers never saw one second of the Tide’s game when it was still in doubt.

Tighten Up Tyra Banks, sappy singers and most of all, ABC.

For Threaded Fasteners, I’m Randy Kennedy with Tighten Up.
