The eye test tells me the Auburn Tigers are the best college basketball team in the country. But all the computer models used by KenPom, BPI and Sagarin don’t agree.
None of that will matter if the Tigers extend their winning streak to 15 games Saturday at Auburn Arena. Beating No. 12 Kentucky would be one of the biggest regular-season wins in program history. It would also almost certainly vault the Tigers to the No. 1 ranking.
Auburn has never been No. 1 before. But, I believe, Auburn has never been this good before.
The Tigers should be about a 5-point favorite. I’ll be surprised if it’s that close. But it’s time for Auburn to prove it deserves the No. 1 ranking for the first time in program history.
