Threaded Fasteners Nuts and Bolts of the Game: Auburn on verge of SEC title

Here is the best example of the rarified air Auburn basketball is breathing these days.

The Tigers are now tantalizingly close to winning the SEC regular season championship for the second time in five years. Before Bruce Pearl’s first Auburn title in 1999, Auburn basketball had won the SEC regular season championship exactly once in 1960. The only other conference championship came in the Southern Conference in 1928.

Barring an extremely unexpected collapse, Auburn will be adding to that next month.

With five games left, the Tigers have a full two-game lead over Kentucky and Tennessee.

The Tigers still face Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi State on the road, with home games against Ole Miss and South Carolina.

A 4-1 record would lock up the title. Even a 3-2 record would guarantee a share of the crown. There are even a decent chance that a 2-3 mark could earn a share of the title.

Next up will be the SEC Tournament, which the Tigers have won only twice in 1985 and 2019.

Enjoy the ride, Auburn fans. This kind of success is hard to earn.
