Threaded Fasteners Tighten Up: Coaches with beard never win championships

It’s easy to believe that no coach named Beard has ever won a Final Four. Chris Beard came close when he led Texas Tech all the way to the final game three years ago. He’s now at Texas, and the Longhorns were eliminated Sunday night by Purdue.

But how about this statistic: No coach with a beard has ever won the national basketball championship.

That fact did not bode well for Auburn and Bruce Pearl, who has decided to keep his COVID-inspired facial hair. The Tigers were eliminated after a lackluster performance against Miami in the Round of 32, increasing the chances that the no-beard streak will continue for another year.

Who knows what the shaving habits of the remaining 16 coaches will be over the next two weeks? But if any of them are considering channeling their inner James Harden, they need to Tighten Up and think again.

For Threaded Fasteners, I’m Randy Kennedy with Tighten Up
