The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to re-sign Mecole Hardman, who caught the game-winning touchdown in the team's Super Bowl LVIII win against the San Francisco 49ers in February, to a one-year contract, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
"Veteran WR Mecole Hardman is re-signing with the #Chiefs on a one-year deal, per source. A hero in Super Bowl LVIII after a brief stint with the #Jets, Hardman is back in Kansas City," Pelissero wrote on his X account.
Hardman, 26, caught the game-winning 3-yard pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes to secure the Chiefs' second consecutive Super Bowl win and third in the past five years.
Hardman was re-acquired by the Chiefs in a trade with the New York Jets last October, just months after signing a one-year, $4 million contract as a free agent. The former University of Georgia standout had previously spent his first four seasons in Kansas City after being selected No. 56 overall in the second-round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Hardman recorded 151 receptions for 2,088 yards, 1,482 return yards, 125 rushing yards and 20 total touchdowns during his four seasons in Kansas City, as well as 14 receptions for 118 yards during his final 12 games of the regular season. The veteran returns to a wide receiver group that had previously signed free agent Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown and drafted Xavier Worthy this offseason.
