Are you prepared for everything from Arlene to Whitney? Those are the names for tropical storms/hurricanes this year.
NOAA is predicting an average (near-normal) year, with 12 to 17 named storms, 5 to 9 becoming hurricanes, and 1 to 4 becoming major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher).
New this year-- the National Hurricane Center is issuing Tropical Outlooks as far out as 7 days. It used to be only 5.
And the readiness catchphrase used to be "The first 72 is on you." Now it's "Are you one week ready?"
