Brock Purdy Is a Trailer, Not a Truck

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York made it clear they have every intention of re-signing QB Brock Purdy and Doug Gottlieb doesn't think paying him up to $60M is the answer. Purdy has been successful in San Francisco because he has had an all-star cast of players surrounding him which the Niners were able to provide because Purdy was on a rookie contract. If they decide to drop a ton of cash to keep him, they won't have much left to support him with quality players. He is a good QB and a valuable part of the roster, but he is just a piece, not the engine driving the team.

Doug Gottlieb: "Why do we have the need to make guys the highest paid ever, ever, ever when what's made Brock Purdy Brock Purdy is he hasn't made a lot of money, so you've been able to give him an all-star cast of players...Now he'll be viewed as the $60M man. That changes the team's expectations of him, fans' expectations of him, and obviously changes the supporting cast around him...Brock Purdy is really, really good but he is the classic trailer, not the truck."
