The attendance for the first games of the MLB Wildcard round have been lackluster and Dan Beyer & Monse Bolaños, in for Doug Gottlieb today, have a theory as to why. Baseball fans don’t want to watch manufactured drama, especially when they are being fed divisional rivals who have already played each other 13 times during the regular season.
Dan Beyer: “Last week the Tigers and Guardians played a series for the division…and they were battling for their playoff lives. Every single one of those three games drew higher than Game 1 of the Wildcard Series yesterday.”
Monse Bolaños: “I hate that the Detroit and Cleveland are playing against each other, and I hate that the Red Sox and the Yankees are playing each other…you shouldn’t a division rival in the Wildcard when you already see them so many times throughout the regular season.”
